| Overview: The 1848 House, a Greek Revival plantation home-turned-restaurant, offers guests a unique dining experience from its role in Southern history to its ambiance and charm. The house was finished in 1848 by Marietta's first mayor and former Charleston planter, John H. Glover. Bushy Park Plantation, as it was called, was 3000 acres and included most of the land between Marietta and present day Smyrna. The house had 17 rooms and 13 fireplaces with many outbuildings. The original stone kitchen is still standing and has been restored to reflect a 19th century kitchen. A service tunnel between the kitchen and the house survived until the 1910s. The house is constructed of heart pine, hand-hewn beams and fastened with hand-forged nails and locust wood pins. The house is a two and one-half raised temple structure with four Doric columns.
