Overview:
The Bristol County Retirement System is the 11th largest of the 106 contributory retirement systems for public employees in Massachusetts. The Public Employee Retirement Administration Commission (PERAC) oversees the Bristol County Retirement System. The system has thirty-six member units operating independently under the retirement law Massachusetts, found in Chapter 32. It is a defined benefit plan that operates as a qualified employer plan under Section 401(a) of the Internal Revenue Code. Since its inception in 1936, the Bristol County Retirement System has provided retirement, disability and survivor benefits to the employees of all member units. Counseling services are available to all members who would like to discuss the various retirement benefits available and receive estimates of their potential retirement allowances. | |
